Frequently asked questions (FAQ) by attendees

We invite research projects from all disciplines. We also encourage all students to submit creative work to GUS as long as it has an original, scholarly aspect to it. All students must be working under the guidance of a faculty or staff mentor who can speak to the quality of the research. Student presents who are assisting faculty members with research may submit that work. Students who are working under the guidance of a faculty member (e.g., a capstone project or a thesis) may also submit that work.

For the foreseeable future, GUS will function as a hybrid conference with both virtual and in-person components. To attend virtual sessions, simply click on the Zoom link to enter the room. We ask that people turn their cameras on when asking questions but keeping them off during the presentation is acceptable. Attendees may also submit questions via the chat function.

For those attending in-person, we ask that all reasonable precautions be taken given the new reality of a Covid world. A full schedule of events will be posted to the GUS website two weeks before the symposium. All room locations will be listed and Guilford staff are available if you do not know where the room is. Most physical locations are in and around the Hege Academic Commons.

We also ask that attendees support the presenters by dressing and behaving appropriately at all times.

Most in-person sessions will take place in rooms within the Hege Academic Commons. There may also be sessions scheduled in Duke Hall (specifically the Leak Room), King Hall, and/or the Orangerie. Please consult the Guilford College campus map for building and parking locations.

Yes! Student, staff, faculty, and alumni volunteers are critical to the success of GUS. Please email us at gus [at] guilford.edu if you would like to be added to the list of volunteers.
